Why I Like My Paper Trimmer

Fiskars SureCut Scrapbooking Paper Trimmer 12" from Joann.com
I know you are probably looking at the title of this post looking at me like I'm some type of weirdo. However, I do not understand why I have gone so long in life without a paper trimmer. I did not consider purchasing one until I really got into playing with and accessorizing my Filofax. Now, I am grateful to have such a handy tool around the house. Here are some reasons why I like my paper trimmer:

  • I am awful at cutting straight lines: Even if I draw a line with a ruler, when I try to cut I still will have a little unevenness going on. However, with my paper trimmer I can get a perfect cut in one second. I purchased a Fiskars brand cutter from JoAnn's and it has a wire that you can line up with whatever you want to cut.  This ensures that you are cutting exactly on guiding lines you may have drawn on with a ruler.
  • It makes clipping coupons neater and faster: I thought I was solely purchasing my paper cutter for Filofax related task. However, one day I had a lot of SmartSource coupons I was clipping and it would have been tedious to individually clip them one at a time. I remembered that I had my trimmer, stacked them evenly, and BAM! all of the coupons were clipped at the same time.
  • I can replace the blade: Some of the trimmers I saw in stores did not have replacement blades you could purchase. It was important to me to be able to go with a brand that offered replacements as it is cheaper to buy those than a new trimmer every few months.
  • I can produce Filofax inserts more efficiently: I am still toying around with creating my own Filofax inserts (right now I am trying to figure out if I am a fan of a day on one page versus a week on two pages). My paper trimmer allows me to cut all my inserts in a way that makes them look professionally done.
So, if you use a lot of coupons or are really into using and customizing paper planners, I would highly recommend you get a paper trimmer...it will make your projects go from a thing you have to do to a thing that was quickly done.
