Hair: Ladies Back In the Day

One day, I was going through the old record collection and something occurred to me.  The women back in the day had some fly hairstyles.  I never really stopped to notice their hair in the past.  So, afterwards that got me to thinking of some cool hairstyles women were rocking in the 1970's and 1980's.  This is not a complete list by any means.  Yet, off the top of my head, here are some women who had some fly hair back in the day. If you can think of someone I forgot to mention, list them in the comments section below.

Pam Grier's afro has that perfect roundness to it.  I'm still trying to work on achieving that, LOL.

Ja'net Dubois' afro had the perfect roundness too.  I'm wondering if its because my hair is sort of in layers that my afro looks weird.

Chaka Khan was rocking a "curlier" afro in this picture.  I like this version too.

I have a confession: I would totally wear my hair like Patrice Rushen if I could.  People would probably hear me coming before they saw me walking somewhere.  However, just seeing how many beads are required to cover her hair is glamorous to me.

Of course Minnie Riperton's afro was dynomite.  However, look at the picture of her in the black hat above.  Is that a twistout? Loving it!

Stephanie Mills had some nice texture to her hair as well back in the day.

So, let me know in the comments section: if you could have your hair like any lady back in the 1970's/1980's who's hairstyle would you rock?

Yours truly,

Coily

  1. For a straight hairstyle, Farrah Fawcett has to get an honorable mention. I'm still trying to learn how to use the curlers/flat irons correctly to achieve that look.
