Olay Pro X Brush Review

I was going through mental gymnastics in my mind of whether I should get the Olay brush that only spins, or get the very expensive Clarisonic Mia 2 that vibrates.  Not only is the Olay brush cheaper, but the replacement brush attachments are affordable too.  After much thought, I figured that I should get an Olay brush and if I wanted to later I could save up the money and purchase a Clarisonic Mia 2.

I purchased the Olay Pro X brush in November when they were offering the red holiday edition (usually the brush is white).  I was excited that they offered the brush in red so I jumped on the opportunity to own one in that color.  It also came with some hair product samples (that I have not used so far) and some Olay cleanser and moisturizer that I was not impressed with.

The main reason why I wanted a brush for my face was to make sure that I was cleaning off all the make up off my face at night and to make sure I got a deeper cleaning with my face wash than I could with my fingers.  Every now and then I will get whitehead pimples on my face (I was hoping acne would stop after my teenage years but that was not the case).  These whiteheads especially love to make guest appearances during that special time of the month.  Sometimes, these whiteheads can get really big and it hurts to touch them.  I know that popping pimples are a big no no, however, if I do not pop these whiteheads when they are little, then I run the risk of them becoming huge and painful to the touch.  The scarring is much worst if I leave the bump alone, let it get big, and go away on it's own versus me popping it when it's starting to take form.

I have been using the brush since November so I believe I have a good opinion of what it does for my skin.  Here are my personal pros and cons of this product:

Pros

  • I am amazed at how much makeup is still on my face after massaging the face wash in with my fingers.  I usually start my night routine by wiping off the makeup with a makeup wipe.  Then, I will wet my face and rub in the face wash.  Now, I use the Olay brush to work in the face wash.  I love that the Olay brush helps me get the the remaining makeup off of my face.  I had no idea that I was not thoroughly washing my face at night until I started using it.  For that reason alone (even though there are some personal cons of this product for me) I will continue to use the Olay Pro X Brush (or a comparable product).
  • The bristles of the brush are just right for me.  They are not too soft or too rough.
  • The brush is a nice size to hold in my hands.
  • The price was decent and I would not mind purchasing replacement brush heads.
  • The brush does not automatically shut off like the Clarisonic Mia 2.  I can use it as long as I want.
  • The brush takes two AA batteries.  At first, I thought this would be a con since you can recharge the Mia's build in battery.  However, I've had the Olay Pro X brush since November and I haven't had to change the batteries yet (in June).
  • The packaging says that it is safe to use in the shower.  I've never done that as I usually wash my face at the sink.  However, knowing that prevents me from being shy about getting it wet.
  • The Olay Pro X only has two speeds: low and high.  The high speed is my favorite.

Cons

  • Even though the brush insures that I am removing all the makeup off of my face, I have not seen an improvement in my skin.  I still get the same amount of whiteheads on my face as I did before I started using it.  So therefore, I do not believe that I get the whiteheads due to not getting all the makeup off of my face anymore.
  • There is no case to protect the brush bristles like the Clarisonic Mia 2.  This is bad, especially if you want to pack it in your luggage.  I have to be extremely careful of how I store the Olay Pro X brush in my drawer because if it lays against the wrong thing I will end up bending the bristles.
  • It was difficult for me to open the battery door.  I don't look forward to the time I have to replace the battery.
Overall, I like the Olay Pro X Brush.  If you are just looking for a method to help you wash your makeup off better than I would recommend this brush.  However, if you are looking for a product to improve the health of your skin, I would not purchase this product.

I am still trying to make up my mind of whether I should save up for a Clarisonic Mia 2.  The fact that they have cases to protect the brush is a plus for me.  If you own either the Olay or a Clarisonic I would love to hear your opinions in the comments section.
