Mead Brights Portable Size Planner

Modern technology makes it easy to organize your life.  However, I like to keep a paper planner in case my gadgets aren't working (like my cell phone that needs a new battery--no worries, UPS should deliver it by Tuesday).  I especially like to keep phone numbers written on paper in case technology should fail me.

I like to keep a planner to keep my schedule, notes, phone numbers, to do list, and shopping list in.  I find it so helpful that most of the things I need to remember are centered in one place.  Around the late 1990's or early 2000's I purchased this personal sized (3.75" x 6.75") planner by Mead.

I love it because it is red and after having it all these years, it still is in good condition.  The red part is made of hard plastic and the black part is made of canvas material.  I also love that it has a zipper so nothing can fall out of it.  Another cool thing about this planner is that it is small enough to fit in a huge purse.  There was a few years that I did not use it but now it is back to being one of my trusty accessories.  I think it was because I was unsure about refills but now I know that the major office supply stores have the right size refills for it.

Also, I am excited because I have realized recently that there is a whole Filofax community online.  I have found a lot of videos of people sharing their planners, how they decorate them, and custom printables they made for their planners.  I am overloaded with excitement in deciding how should I use my planner in 2015.

While purchasing these refills from the office supply store is convenient,  I do not like the little boxes for Saturday and Sunday.  I like to write down for Sundays what outfit I wore to church because I am forgetful and if I don't make a note of it I would probably wear the same outfit twice back to back.  (HA HA HA!  I know, I know.)  So, now I am thinking of ways to make this planner work better for me.  I also want to purchase a 6 hole punch because punching each hole on several sheets of paper is a tedious task.

The Mead Brights planner came with four divider sections: Calendar, Daily, Notes, and Tel/Add. It has a ribbon pen loop where I keep my mechanical pencil (I like to write appointments and phone numbers/addresses in pencil because sometimes they change).  The planner came with a Today ruler that you can use as a bookmark.  I have two of those since the other year when I purchase refills it had one.  I like to write extra notes on mini post it notes and stick them on the rulers.  It also came with a zip up pouch and a business card holder with three sections.

I am inspired to go on Pinterest and see how other people are using their planners.  I know that Filofax and Kate Spade have planners the size of my planner so maybe they might have some cool things I can use.  I think the Kate Spade Wellesley Zip Up Organizers are so cute! Even though I'm happy with my Mead Brights I wouldn't mind having another planner that was leather as it looks more professional.  (I called an outlet store to see if they had any in stock but they were sold out.)

So, I am considering this blog post as my entry to the Filofax community.  I hope to use my creativity to keep myself and others organized and on top of goals.  I also have to give washi tape a try.  I don't own any yet but it looks colorful and fun...and well my blog's name is Colors and Coils so you know I have to bring the color.  Another thing I am loving about the Filofax community is that I have found several bloggers to be Christians and they share how they journal their Bible readings.  Some bloggers are also into writing their meal plans, water consumption, and workouts (but I do all of that on Lose It! or MyFitnessPal so I'm not sure if I would use my planner for that).

Later, I will be blogging about my other planner that I made this year.  It is the size of a regular binder.  The older I've gotten, the more things and responsibilities I have to keep up with.  There are some things that just will not fit in a personal sized planner.  So I made what people call a home or family planner.  I am more colorful with that planner as I love using different color ink and creative printables.  Since this is the first year I've tried the home planner, I am deciding if it is efficient to have two planners.  Technically, I could put everything in the home planner but it's too big and I would never want to leave the house with it.

So, tell me in the comments section how many planners do you use in a year, what size are they, and how you use them.
